Arkansas Cancer Plan Alignment

Cancer PALS Foundation aligns its work with community-facing priorities reflected in the Arkansas Cancer Plan and the broader effort to reduce the burden of cancer across the state.

Our four pillars — Prevention, Advocacy, Lifestyle, and Support — help guide practical action around education, wellness, early detection awareness, survivorship support, and stronger community partnerships.

Goal 1: Nutrition and healthy lifestyle promotion

The Arkansas Cancer Plan emphasizes reducing obesity, improving nutrition, increasing physical activity, and promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors.

Cancer PALS supports this goal through:

  • Community education on nutrition, movement, and wellness
  • Health promotion as cancer prevention messaging
  • Wellness-focused events and survivorship programming
  • Education about lifestyle-related cancer risks
  • Collaboration with wellness providers and community organizations
  • Encouragement of healthy habits for survivors, caregivers, families, and the general public

Goal 2: Physical activity and community wellness

The Arkansas Cancer Plan encourages increased physical activity and reduced sedentary lifestyle risks.

Cancer PALS supports this goal through:

  • Community-centered wellness and activity events
  • Movement-focused survivorship and prevention education
  • Family-friendly community engagement activities
  • Wellness initiatives that support quality of life during and after treatment
  • Partnerships with organizations that promote physical and emotional wellness

Goal 3: Tobacco prevention and cessation

The Arkansas Cancer Plan focuses on reducing tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure among adults and youth.

Cancer PALS supports this goal through:

  • Cancer prevention education about tobacco-related cancer risks
  • Tobacco cessation awareness efforts
  • Evidence-based educational resources
  • Healthy lifestyle messaging in schools and community settings
  • Public awareness around preventable cancer risks

Goal 4: Reducing cancer incidence, mortality, and barriers to care

The Arkansas Cancer Plan emphasizes prevention, early detection, reduced mortality, and fewer barriers to care.

Cancer PALS supports this goal through:

  • Screening awareness and early detection education
  • Resource navigation for patients and caregivers
  • Grassroots outreach in rural and underserved communities
  • Connection to support resources and community partners
  • Survivorship quality-of-life services
  • Healthcare literacy and access-to-resource education
  • Advocacy for compassionate, patient-centered support systems

Goal 5: Quality of life for cancer survivors

The Arkansas Cancer Plan prioritizes survivorship outcomes and long-term quality of life for people affected by cancer.

Cancer PALS supports this goal through:

  • Survivorship support programs
  • Mentorship and peer connection
  • Emotional support and caregiver encouragement
  • Wellness services and supportive care partnerships
  • Educational resources for patients and families
  • Counseling, rehabilitation, wellness, and supportive care referral opportunities when available
  • Survivorship empowerment and long-term wellness education

Community action alignment

Cancer PALS also supports community action priorities such as:

Sharing cancer risk reduction and healthy lifestyle information

We do this through social media education, community classes, outreach events, survivor-centered wellness education, and public health awareness efforts.

Promoting evidence-based screening and prevention

We support screening awareness campaigns, educational events, informational materials, and collaboration with healthcare organizations and providers.

Supporting survivorship and support groups

We support mentor and peer connection initiatives, caregiver support efforts, survivor-focused quality-of-life programming, and community connection opportunities.

Addressing barriers and disparities

We work toward assistance navigation, referral systems, transportation and supportive care initiatives when available, rural outreach, and grassroots support focused on accessibility and equity.

Building statewide partnerships

We seek collaboration with healthcare providers, nonprofits, businesses, advocacy groups, volunteers, sponsors, and community leaders.

Work with us

Cancer prevention and survivorship support require community effort. If your organization wants to collaborate on education, wellness, screening awareness, survivorship support, or resource connection, we would love to hear from you.

Aligned action

Prevention, education, and support are community work.

Cancer PALS welcomes partners who want to help reduce barriers and improve quality of life across Arkansas.
